Did you know: at least 1 in 4 people across England live more than 15 minutes’ walk from green space.
Why does this matter?
Because access to nature and green spaces is one of the simplest ways we can improve our mental and physical health, and improve the social connections that bring us together.
Paths are lifelines for connecting us to nature – and each other.
England has a world-class path network – but years of neglect means that many paths are missing, blocked or unusable. And it’s less well-off communities that are more likely to miss out.
At the end of 2025, the Government committed to an Access to Nature green paper for England, which is the first step in securing a new law for improving access to the outdoors.
However, plans for the green paper appear to have stalled. There is no clear timetable for making progress – and the Government risks running out of time to make a real difference.
This is where we come in. Together we can show that access to nature deserves action.
Will you write to the Secretary of State today, with a message of why this issue matters to you, to ensure that this is not another broken promise?
Access to nature isn’t a luxury. It’s a right.
